This site exists because pricing a ductless heat pump is unnecessarily opaque. The question a homeowner actually has — what will this cost and will it work in my house — needs three separate answers, and the pages that claim to give them usually give one confident number with no indication of where it came from or what it excludes.

Who writes this

Andrew Flores is responsible for this site's research, calculations, source checks, and corrections. Every registered figure enters through the register with a named source, a verbatim quote and a retrieval date. I am not an HVAC contractor, a mechanical engineer or a licensed installer, and this site never pretends otherwise. What I do is read published sources carefully, record exactly what they say and when I read it, build the arithmetic that connects them, and label everything I made up myself. Where a contractor’s judgement is required, the pages say so and tell you what to ask.

The rule everything else follows from

A figure with no source does not get published. Not as an estimate, not as a placeholder, not as a reasonable-sounding round number. If a page needs a number I could not source, it says so and explains what to do instead — which is why the installed-cost worksheet has a list of things it deliberately does not price, and why a permit table on this site has exactly one row.

The consequence is a site with visible holes. A permit table with one city looks worse than one with fifty invented averages. I would rather it look worse and be true, because the person reading it is about to spend several thousand dollars partly on the strength of it.

How it is built

Every constant lives in one module. Pages cannot print a number directly; they request it by identifier from a register that carries the value, the unit, the source name, the source URL, a verbatim quote, the retrieval date and one of three labels. A page asking for an identifier that does not exist fails the build rather than rendering a blank. The register currently holds 108 figures and the methodology page is generated directly from it, so the published sources cannot drift from the ones the calculators use.

The calculators run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted anywhere, which is both a privacy property and the reason there is no submit button — the answer updates as you change the inputs because there is no server to ask.

How it is paid for

The intention is advertising. There is no advertising on the site today and no affiliate relationship with any manufacturer, installer, retailer or lead-generation service. Nothing here recommends a brand, and no page will ever route you to a partner in exchange for a fee — the closest thing to a commercial instruction on this site is a suggestion to get three itemised quotes and read them side by side.

If that changes, the privacy policy changes in the same deploy as the code, and the editorial policy describes the separation that has to hold.
