About this site

This site exists because pricing a ductless heat pump is unnecessarily opaque. The question a homeowner actually has — what will this cost and will it work in my house — needs three separate answers, and the pages that claim to give them usually give one confident number with no indication of where it came from or what it excludes.

Who writes this

Andrew Flores, working alone, with AI assistance used for drafting and checking and never as a source. He publishes the site and is the person who answers for corrections to it. Every registered figure enters the register with the date its source was read and one of three labels; a sourced figure also names its document and carries either the sentence that prints it or that table row’s cells as printed, and the assumed ones are marked as this site’s own adjustments. He is not an HVAC contractor, a mechanical engineer or a licensed installer, and the site never presents itself as one. The pages are built by reading published sources, recording what they say and when they were read, writing out the arithmetic that connects them, and labelling every figure that is the site’s own assumption. Where a contractor’s judgement is required, the pages say so and tell you what to ask.

The rule everything else follows from

Every figure in the register carries a named source, or a label saying it is this site’s own arithmetic or assumption; the state price and degree-day tables are sourced tables described on the methodology page. If a page needs a number that could not be sourced and is not worth assuming, it says so and explains what to do instead — which is why the installed-cost worksheet has a list of things it deliberately does not price, and why a permit table on this site has exactly one row.

The consequence is a site with visible holes. A permit table with one city looks worse than one with fifty invented averages. Looking worse and being true is the better trade, because the person reading it is about to spend several thousand dollars partly on the strength of it.

How it is built

Registered figures live in one data module, and the pages print them from a register that carries the value, the unit, the source name and address, the quoted sentence or table cells, the date the source was read and one of three labels. The register currently holds 120 figures and the methodology page lists every one, so the published sources match the ones the calculators use.

The calculators run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted anywhere, which is both a privacy property and the reason there is no submit button — the answer updates as you change the inputs because there is no server to ask.

How it is paid for

The intention is advertising. There is no advertising on the site today and no affiliate relationship with any manufacturer, installer, retailer or lead-generation service. Nothing here recommends a brand, and no page will ever route you to a partner in exchange for a fee — the closest thing to a commercial instruction on this site is a suggestion to get three itemised quotes and read them side by side.

If that changes, the privacy policy is updated before any advertising code is added, and the editorial policy describes the separation that has to hold.
